Green Fluorescent Protein (GFP)

Green Fluorescent Protein (GFP)The green fluorescent protein is a protein from a jellyfish. GFP converts a blue light (activation light) to a green light (emission light). It has been widely used as a report protein because its ability to label living cells. Variants of GFP have been engineered to have different activation and emission light spectrum, allowing more than one fluorescent protein reporters to be used in one living cell.
